Silverleaf Academy was conceived in a belief system that students learn better in a single-gender environment such as an all girls school, that their learning needs are distinctly different and that they learn best in nurturing classrooms where they feel a strong sense of confidence. Extensive research confirms our belief, identifying that girls benefit from a school that places an emphasis on building a young woman's sense of competence. Personal confidence is key to taking academic risks and risk is required to learn and grow.
Teachers are the single most powerful contributing factor to student success. Strong college preparatory education depends upon instruction from outstanding content specialist instructors who care about their students. Silverleaf Academyrecognizes the powerful implications of that research-based conclusion. The ratio of students to teachers is kept low to ensure optimal learning conditions and foster positive relationships between students and teachers. Our faculty brings a strong academic preparation, their own love of learning and an understanding of the developmental needs of the students they teach.
Additionally, Sally Ride, the first woman astronaut in space, has reviewed and guided the development of our science curriculum. As a pioneer of space exploration and renowned world scientist, we are very proud to have Dr. Ride's guidance in the design of our all girls school course offerings and we look to her as a continued source of inspiration in our mission to educate young women.
To support our students in successfully meeting their academic goals, assistance is available on a weekly basis after school during the supervised Academic Advisement session. Sessions are from Monday through Friday, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM and supervised by our faculty. Sessions are used to answer students' questions, review course concepts and/or to clarify any questions concerning homework assignments or class projects. Academic Advisement affords students to leave school feeling empowered to complete their assignments by building their confidence and helping them become self-directed learners.
Through the Community Service component of our program, students interact with the community through our all girls school and individual projects. Students are given an opportunity to reflect their individual strengths or talents to give back to the community. Through these experiences students learn that they can make positive contributions to the world and, in doing so, increase their sense of self-worth.
Every girl should have the chance to express herself through creativity and enjoyment. Our sister affiliate West Coast Dance Academy gives our students a tremendous chance to participate in various dance programs which serve as elective credits. The West Coast Dance Academy offers specialized courses designed for our students taught by instructors who are exceptionally talented artists who share our vision of developing educated, well-balanced, confident young women.
